Join us and Speaker Richard Hechler for an informative meeting on “Preventing Elder Financial Abuse Relating to Scams”
Elders comprise the fastest growing, yet most vulnerable, segment of our society. (Napa County has the second highest percentage of elders of any county in California.) Family members, caregivers, “new best friends”, and strangers swindled elder Americans of an estimated $2.9 billion in 2011, up 12 percent from 2008.
This presentation, including several video depictions, is intended to provide a basic overview for lawyers of the numerous scams, swindles, and Bunco schemes that are being perpetrated upon seniors and others. Topics include identity theft/phishing, “grandma” scam, lotto scam, worthless check scam, home repair/imposter burglary scam, and sweetheart scam. Presentation includes footage of a convicted felon’s “de-briefing” as to how criminals target elders.
